Lester Toungate has a six-foot problem named Shirley Lyle.

The only way he can return to his drug lord duties with a clear mind: kill her—and Ulyana the Ukrainian stripper. Lester knows she didn’t pick up a rock at the trailer fire.

F.B.I. special agent Joe Smith stands to lose his reputation as a goody two shoes, his career in the agency, and his freedom, if his superiors ever learn about his role in the sex-torture death of El Jay Toungate. Joe Smith doesn’t merely have a Shirley Lyle problem. He has a Shirley and Ulyana problem, and he’s been recalled to Phoenix. The solution? Murder both women. Now.

Russian mob boss Vanko Demyan, convinced Shirley, Ulyana, and Lester are in cahoots against him, assigns his best assassin a simple task: Execute all three, and do it in the daylight. Make a splash.

Three men… three murder missions… converge on a house in the woods.

Newly freed from the root cellar, Ulyana wants to spend her days meditating in sunshine and doing yoga. Shirley wants a salad and a tall glass of rum—but not this day. Today is for bullets, and they fly in Chapter One.

“I know you’re excited,” Shirley says, adjusting her cape. “C’mon. One at a time, Boys.”

Fun read. If you like to chuckle as you read, you’ll love this book.

  2. Precise Disarray

I love Shirley F’n Lyle. She is awesome to “hang out” with; quite a character. Compared to some of his work the Shirley books are light. Story moves quickly and there are some crazy things that go on as well as a bunch of humor. I have really enjoyed Shirley and look forward to more.Lots of sass and smarts. I devoured the first book, and quickly followed up with the second. Now I wait for the next. As I do so I have begun some other books by this author. What a treat to find an author with such an imagination and way with words.

  3. Kindle Customer

I love his books! I especially like how Shirley became a hero for the little guy. A read you want forget.

  4. PKN

I liked the first book of this series, but. T it took me awhile to get into it. This one was the same. Once I decided to keep reading, everything changed. There is a lot to take in, but it is a fast ,great ,read. That’s all I want to say…keep reading! You’ll be glad you did.

  5. eddiesr

  8. Kindle Customer

Wonderful read. Love the character. Waiting for number 3. Go Shirley Go. Leaving with another cliffhanger. I can’t wait for more.

  9. carol ganwich

This author is different from any I’ve read. I wasn’t sure at first, now I’m plowing through his books like crazy!

  10. bkeepr

I am a devoted fan of this author and am reading through all of his books. He does a great job of getting into the heads of his characters so you understand their motivations. His plots are twisty and surprising.

  11. G Lambert

Shirley is a big, beautiful woman with a heart as big as her mammage. It’s not a romance novel, though there is some; it’s not a murder mystery, though there is some; it’s not a thriller, though there is some; it’s not an erotic novel though there definitely is some. What this book does is follow Shirley as she puts her big girl panties on and fixes her world and the worlds of the people she cares about in the only way she knows how. You will enjoy this book! Buy it now!

  12. Sara Glenn

Book 2. In fact you won’t be disappointed with any of Clayton’s books, but start with his first book and ride the crooked road with the rest of us.

  13. Tracy Bussert

I love and I hate this book. As with most of the stories Clayton writes, the book seems to end right in the middle! Just as the story is getting wound up and it seems like something big is about to happen, it’s over! Please buy my next book. I love the stories, I love how he writes. It moves fast, I just want to keep reading! It’s funny, it’s full of action, there is some suspense mixed in. But please stop ending your books in the middle of the story. They are good stories and I will buy the next one without the cliff hangers! Bring the book to an end, don’t stop in the middl

Fun read. If you like to chuckle as you read, you’ll love this book.

  17. Andra wylie

Oh Shirley! Brace yourself for a wild ride with this little lady! Working as a prostitute weighing in at around 375 pounds this lady is armed with guns and laughs! Heart of gold Shirley will save a friend and get revenge! She is large and becoming in charge! In charge of her life and Italian mafia revenge. The first 2 books have me drooling for book #3! She will make you laugh as you cheer her on! I have read every one of Clayton Lindermuths books and if you haven’t read the Baer series starting with “Men I Sent Forward” your missing out! There is also a group “Red Meat Lit team” who discus the books and get to talk to the author!!! Get it…… you’ll love it my friend!!

Didn’t like Shirley too much. I’m in love with Baer so I’ll keep up with C.L. and see what happens next.

I have been surprised at how engrossed I’ve become reading Clayton‘s books. I sit down to read for a few minutes only to realize I’ve been reading for several hours. Looking forward to my next book from Clayton.

One At A Time BoysShirley F’N Lyle keeps Viva the Revolution fires burning in this second book devoted to another one of Clayton Lindemuth’s phenomenal characters. And Shirley is phenomenal. Shirley is a 400 pound ex-hooker with a heart of gold tendered with a mean streak that bodes badly for the bedeviled.Arrested and jailed for double murder Shirley is happily surprised to see upon entering the court, the judge trying her case is non other than a prior john. This should make this misunderstanding that led to the murder charge go quietly away. Then when her number one enemy pays her 1 million dollar bail, a guarded truce has been established but to whose advantage? This book just gallops along with Shirley’s various escapades. Her good hearted deeds evened by her one woman crusade to right some wrongs happening on the dark side of humanity.By now if you’ve read anything by this author, you know his talent and can’t get enough. If you haven’t read him you’re missing out big time.

  22. mike

Not as good as the “Baer Creighton series” but worth a read. Too many characters at the start of the story to keep track of but gets better down the road.

  23. Steve Giguere

Shirley Lyle kicking ass and taking names. What a fun read. If you like Stephanie plum you’ll love Shirley Lyle

  28. Graymalkin

Shirley Lyle was first introduced to us in Book Four of the Baer Creighton series, The Outlaw Stinky Joe – a series I solidly recommend. She is a fifty-two-year-old, four-hundred pound (well, three-hundred-fifty-three pound) prostitute who has flat had enough. Fed f’n up with abuse from man or woman, for kicking herself for her life’s mistakes, and of being pushed around. And when she snaps, she does it full throttle, with no looking back. She can be judge, jury, and executionioner, or compassionate vigilante for the wronged and abused. There is excitement, bloodshed, and humor throughout as Shirley and her comrade, 19 year-old almost-Ukrainian stripper, Ulyana, fight for truth, justice, and a bag of burritos. As a writer, Clayton Lindemuth defies comparison. He is a master of “rural noir” who is equally at home with “chick grit lit;” from a North Carolina moonshiner out for vengeance in the Bear Creighton series to a couple of hookers out to start a revolution in the Shirley F’N Lyle series, there is a lot to like in Lindemuth’s imagination and style.

  29. Dannie L. Hickman

Shirley is bad a$$. Viva Shirley. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Love the characters and they way they blended together. Kept me guessing on the outcome.

  30. THE HOLEY ONE

What do you call a 400 pound Hooker filled with Righteous Indignation? Shirley F’N Lyle! It’s hard for me to review this book without giving away any plot details which I hate to do. I personally dislike what I call HS Book Report reviews that attempt to summarize the story for two reasons. First, the authors do a much better job of this than any reviewer could ans that’s where a prospecting reader should go if that’s what they want, Second, and most important, I believe the plot line and story details should be revealed at the pace the author desires.I will tell you that this story is about a woman who is tired of being mistreated even though she has chosen a profession that relies on this mistreatment. She’s tired of that as well but, even more so, she is fed-up with a system that seems overly rigged in favor of the powerful. Especially the powerful who are supposed to defend and protect us from harm. Shirley suddenly realizes that the experience and knowledge she has acquired from he profession makes her a powerful weapon in her desire to fix the world, at least her part of the world. She’s finding it nearly impossible to determine if there really is a line between right and wrong and decides to choose effective as her guiding light.Review by THE HOLEY ONE
